ensemble cross.art was formed in 2008 as an adventurous platform for new music. A central concept of the ensemble is working with composers and artists of other art forms, bringing their works to the stage. In addition, ensemble cross.art promotes the exchange of culture and new music between Germany and other countries.
To date, ensemble cross.art has commissioned and collaborated with more than 50 composers from 22 countries. They have worked together with Akademie Scholss Solitude, Musik der Jahrhunderte, Tokyo Wonder Site, Korean National University of Arts in Seoul, National University of Ireland in Maynooth and the University College Cork, among others. Their projects have been funded by such organizations as the Deutscher Musikrat, Kulturamt Stuttgart, Impuls Neue Musik, Japan Foundation, Institut Français and Goethe Institute. The ensemble takes on new challenges in projects featuring other art forms, such as contemporary calligraphy, short films, literature, performance and dance. For the concert “ohren augen” (“ears eyes”), they received the prize for the most distinguished concert of the Experimental Sound, Art & Performance Festival Tokyo and were invited to the awards concert in December 2010. Concert engagements have taken them to Ireland (Dublin and Cork 2013) and to Brazil, where they appeared in Sao Paulo (2011), Campinas (2013) and twice at the Bienal Musica Hoje in Curitiba (2011 & 2013).
